3.5 Zeolitic water
Zeolitic water is loosely bound water of crystallization that can be lost from a mineral without the mineral undergoing a structural change.
The zeolite mineral edingtonite is an example of a mineral that can lose a significant amount of zeolitic water at room temperature (Figure 3-18).
This loss is reversible, and, hence, maintaining minerals having zeolitic water in a fully hydrated state is not necessary for their preservation.
